The Digital Divide: Why Web2 Isn’t Enough Anymore
For years, we have implicitly accepted a digital landscape where companies harvest our data, monetize our online interactions without our consent, and powerful intermediaries dictate the rules.
This centralized paradigm has created a significant digital divide, marked by several critical problems:
First, there’s the issue of centralized power and data lock-in. Users, the very creators of value through their interactions and content, often find themselves mere tenants in digital spaces they help build. Purely economic incentives can lead to vulnerabilities like Sybil attacks and manipulation, where bad actors can exploit the system. Real-world reputation and social connections, crucial for building genuine trust in offline interactions, are largely absent in many current blockchain models.
